CIRCLESCAPES

The Circlescapes series of works on paper feature landscapes I have passed through, experienced, and enjoyed, in distant lands and close to home. The compositions are conceived like individual frames within a film reel, with landscapes bordered by blocks of color and a series of circles. The circles are a bit like the holes along the edges of the film reel, but horizontally oriented. The circle is infinite, with no beginning and no end—it represents wholeness, perfection, unity—the unity of human and landscape. The works reveal the passage of time as they build one upon another in an ongoing sequence as a record of lands traversed. The external world is filtered through a personal lens, uncovering the correlation between mental state and environment. We are connected to the land in more ways than we realize.
