Under Water presents a visual perspective into the vast world beneath the ocean’s surface and into the lives of organisms living there. The paintings celebrate the remarkable beauty of marine species and the delicate, threatened place they hold within the web of life. From large species like the blue whale down to the smallest plankton—all are linked with us in an intricate web, all hold a value and place within the chain of life, all are vulnerable to harmful environmental changes and over exploitation.
This work embraces a contemporary understanding of our environment, its value, and our place within it. The works are not idyllic seascapes placing the viewer at a distance, standing separate from what is surveyed, but intimate, imaginative portraits of life under the water’s surface, infused with the magic and wonder that connects all living beings.
