TAPESTRIES

The body of work I'm calling Tapestries has arisen out of my Passages series of paintings, based on natural and designed systems referencing ecology and natural phenomenon within a narrow geometric framework. Recently, I began to incorporate a weaving pattern into the compositions, with strips of color weaving over and under other colored paths, like the warp and weft of a woven textile. This small shift developed into the idea of forming a visual tapestry or fabric, rather than creating linear pathways through space. The pathways spill over into each other. The stripes and patterns overlap different pathways. The positive and negative spaces become difficult to decipher. The compositions have evolved into something more complex, with varied interconnected elements influencing one another, weaving together into a tapestry — the whole becoming greater than the sum of its parts.
